What "best" means for sports team group airfare
Team programmes break when fixtures move, when squad and staff must sit together, or when a tournament spans several cities. Score those risks before booking.
Sport is the vertical where the travelling party is decided last. Fixtures move, squads are named on form and fitness, and a tournament can add a leg with a week of notice. Against that, the seating requirement is unusually strict: a squad that arrives split across a cabin has already lost something. Those two pressures together are what push most club travel onto a group file.

- Our fixture could move. Can we still book?
- That is the normal case in sport rather than the exception. Change rules come from the file and the contract, so put the possibility on the table at the quote and get the terms in writing.
- Can we guarantee the squad sits together?
- A group file is designed around one common segment, which is what makes a seating block achievable. It is still a request against a real aircraft, so agree it explicitly rather than assuming it.
- What supervision ratios apply to a youth squad?
- They are set by the carrier. American publishes 1 adult per 20 minors non-stop and 1 per 15 connecting, counting anyone under 18. Confirm the ratio for your actual airline before fixing staffing.
- How do we handle excess kit?
- Raise it at the quote. Bulky or excess baggage is materially easier to agree as part of the file than to negotiate at the airport on the day.
